Lena Mae Turner Cress, age 105 of Burning Springs departed this life on Monday, August 9th 2021 at Landmark of Laurel Creek. Mrs. Lena was born Monday, September 20th 1915 in Clay Co, Ky. to Felix Turner and Nannie Mae Howard Turner. She was a lifelong member of the Pine Grove Church of Christ and strove to live her life by Gods word.
She is preceded in death by her parents Felix and Nannie Mae Turner, her husband William Cress, her daughter Shelba Jean Cress Jennings, her granddaughter Kathryn Wilson Breeden, and her great grandson Stephen Nicholas Breeden.
She is survived by her great grandchildren Marsha Renee Moore and husband James Taylor of Burning Springs, William Clint Moore of Mt. Vernon, Sonja Coe Alley of Alcoa, TN, and Johnny and wife Michelle Wallace of Fayetteville, GA. Great great grandchildren Joseph, Jasha and Isabella Taylor, Rusty Wallace, and Kourtney Breeden. She is also survived by her niece Becky Jacobs, husband Kenny and their daughters Kayla and Kelly and by nephew Anthony (Tweet) Cupp, wife Belinda and their daughters Bridget and Hanna. Mrs. Lena also leaves behind a host of friends and family whose lives she has touched in her 105 years. Especially among them Henry Jones, Sandy, Jeremy and Joshua Bowling and family, Gordon Miller, Johnny Johnson and the entire Johnson family and Patsy Wombles.
Lena believed in hard work, and was devoted to her family, community and God. She was always busy, always willing to lend a hand and always honest (occasionally brutally so). She was a mother, grandmother, friend, aunt, sister, mentor, caregiver, helper and inspiration to those who knew her.
Special thanks from the family go to the amazing staff of Landmark of Laurel Creek Nursing Home, for providing excellent care for the last three years of her life and being her second family especially in the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID pandemic.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Lena will be conducted on Sunday, August 15th at 2:00 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel. Jeremy Bowling officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Pine Grove Cemetery in the Fogertown Community.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Sunday after 1PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.
The family requests that masks be worn by everyone attending.
In Lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Pine Grove Cemetery or the Clay County Senior Center.
