Mrs. Ruth Ellen Elie, age 84, of Berrien Springs, Michigan passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Bonny and Fred Calkins, in Sextons Creek, KY where she has been residing. Ruth was born September 30, 1925 in Farrell, Pennsylvania the daughter of Hazel and John Low. She was a nurse's aide and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church where she served many years as organist. She loved her children, grandchildren, reading, crocheting, traveling with her daughters, thunderstorms, summers at the lake, boat rides, bike rides, walking, and music of any kind, especially when performed by her children.
She leaves surviving the following children: Yvonne "Bonny" Calkins of Sextons Creek; Peter James Elie of Marathon, Florida; Kathleen Elie of Inkster, Michigan; Donna Morehead of Grand Prairie, Texas; Carol Kondener of Coconut Creek, Florida; Kenneth Elie of St Joseph, Michigan; and David Elie of Marathon, Florida. She has 6 grandsons: Joshua Elie, James Long, Zadok Calkins, Robert Brown, Branden Morehead and Christopher Elie, 5 granddaughters: Angela Brinkley, Keren Lawrence, Jepthae Calkins, Hanniel Calkins, Kayla Kondenar, and one great granddaughter Leah Brinkley. Also surviving are brothers Paul Low of Ohio, Robert Low of Texas; sisters Virginia Hansen of Utah and Grace Butzer of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert David Elie and her husband Pete Elie.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 13, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Laws officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Lawn Cemetery in Bell County. Visitation will be Sunday after 6 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.
