Mr. Vernon Hooker, age 72 of Buzzard departed this life on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. He was born on Saturday, July 4, 1942 in Clay County, Kentucky to the union of Tom and Etta Gibson Hooker. He was a welder, a coal miner, a retired bus driver for the Clay County Board of Education and a member of the New Home Baptist Church.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife: Wilma Jean Hammons Hooker, his daughters: Susan Yvonne Woods and her husband Denny, Etta Jean Burchfield and her husband Jeff, Kimberly Loma Baker and her husband Mansell, and Sheila Dawn Jackson and her husband Michael Paul. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Hope Woods, Dustin Patrick Woods, Brandi Amanda Burchfield, Kelsee Brooke Burchfield, John Vernon Hooker, Courtney Nicole Forman, Justin David Jackson, and James Daniel Jackson, 2 great grandchildren: Tyson Hooker and Andi Grace Forman and these sisters: Ruth Kurtz and Martha Rose Hendren and his brother: Oakley Hooker.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Tom and Etta Hooker, his brother: Calvin Hooker and his sister: Mary Fortner.

Funeral Services for Mr. Vernon Hooker will be conducted on Sunday, May 24 at 2 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel. Herbert Minton, Michael Paul Jackson, and Darrell Bargo will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Hooker Cemetery in the Buzzard Community.

Visitation will be on Saturday evening after 5 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.
