Thomas G. Weatherford, III, born on July 5th, 1949 in Raleigh, NC was blessed by the Lord’s call of eternal peace on July 14th, 2010. His parents, Eric A. Weatherford, II and Rebecca Christmas Weatherford, both educators, as well as two brothers, Peter Michael and Sequoyah R. preceded him in death.
Thomas is survived by his wife: Brenda S. Walker Weatherford; two sons: Thomas G. Weatherford, IV and Joseph C. Weatherford; two daughters: Sherri (Morant) Vaughn and Shante Jones; two stepsons: Vincent J. Walker (Tammy) and Phillip M. McKissic (Teneshia); three grandsons, Keith, Tyron, and Jordon Walker of Louisville, Kentucky, and three granddaughters: Desirae Vaughn of Brandon, Florida and Nevaeh H. and Nayima McKissic of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by two sisters: Cornelia Barnes-Veasy (Warren) and Rebecca W. Jessup, and brother: Eric A. Weatherford, III as well as extended family and friends.
Thomas received his early education in Raleigh, NC and attended college at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky. Thomas was involved with the Southern Leadership Council and was an advocate of the Civil Rights Movement. He served as a pastor with the Kentucky, North Carolina, and Virginia Conferences of the African Methodist Episcopal Church until he became super numerated in 1987. Thomas was a husband, father, grandfather, friend, pastor, photographer, and historian who loved to travel and enjoyed life.
A Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 14th, 2010 at the St. Paul AME Church in Manchester. Internment will follow in the Walker Family Cemetery in Manchester.
