Mrs. Joan Stivers, age 88 of Charlie Sizemore Road in Manchester, passed away Monday, March 29th, 2010 at her home. She was born June 19th, 1921 in Greenfield, Massachusetts. She was founder and chairperson of OPAC Board of London; thirty-four years teacher, Dean of Students, Academic Dean and President of Sue Bennett College. She was an educational volunteer at FCI of Manchester and a member of the Greenbriar Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her children: Franklin Atwood Stivers JD of London, Kentucky, Louise Stivers Scott MA of Iowa, Mary Beth Stivers PhD of Des Moines, Iowa, and B. Robert Stivers II JD of Manchester, Kentucky. Also surviving are the following grandchildren: Kendall Stivers BA with Honors from Transylvania University and Masters from Miami of Ohio University, Kaelin Stivers BA with Honors from Hanover College, Susan and Lisa Scott, Joshua Pierce Stivers, Caroline Marie Stivers, Margaret Eleanor Stivers, and Robert Taylor Stivers.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Karl and Priscilla Granger Koch, her husband: Bertram Robert H. Stivers, and her brother: Karl Frederick Koch, II.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Greenbriar Presbyterian Church, 1920 HWY 638, Manchester, Kentucky 40962, or the Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky, 800 Rose Street, CC 140 Roach Building, Lexington, Kentucky 40536-0093 (In Memo Write: for Joan Stivers), or the Stivers Leadership Scholarship Endowment, Upper Iowa University, Advancement Office, P. Funeral Services for Mrs. Joan Stivers will be Friday, April 2nd, at 10:30 A. M. at the Greenbriar Presbyterian Church. Rev. Tim Rogers will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Reid-Stivers Cemetery in the Greenbriar Community.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 1st, from 6 PM until 8:30 PM at the Greenbriar Presbyterian Church.
