Robert “Bobby” Whitis, age 74 of Burning Springs entered into eternal life, Thursday, May 1, 2014 in Burning Springs. He was born Tuesday, November 21, 1939 in Clay County to the union of Alonzo Whitis and Bernice Parks Whitis. Bobby owned and operated the A.L. Whitis Insurance Agency in Manchester and was in the insurance business for over 50 years. He was an avid trapshooter for many years and enjoyed anything outdoors, especially caring for his yard. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. Surviving him is his wife, Rita Bowling Whitis of Burning Springs; daughters, Renee Marcum and her husband Robert of Burning Springs and Amy Sams and her husband, Ben of London; sister, Jeanie Roberts of Burning Springs; granddaughters, Emily Marcum, Elivia Marcum and Katie Sams; also, several nieces nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Bernice Whitis; brother, Eugene Whitis; and sister, Beatrice Lewis. Visitation will be after 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Dobson Funeral Home in McKee. Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Rominger Funeral Home in Manchester with Bro. Kenneth Felty and Bro. Charlie Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in the Manchester Memorial Gardens in Manchester. In lieu of flowers family request memorial contributions be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund.
