Mr. Robert Sawyers, age 90 of Manchester, passed away Saturday, December 31st, 2011 at the Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born May 30th, 1921 in Clay County, Kentucky to the union of Benjamin Franklin and Bertha Hayre Sawyers. He was a federal mine inspector, a coal miner, a member of the Pleasant Run Baptist Church where he was a deacon and former Sunday School Teacher, and he was a Veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Army.
He is survived by his daughter: Rebecca Powell and her husband: Willie of Manchester, his grandson: Matthew William Powell and his wife Mary of Tyner, his great granddaughter: Taylor Powell, 2 sisters: Zola Hampton of Bush, Kentucky and Verna Napier of Manchester, and his brother: L. D. Sawyers and his wife Lucille of California.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin Franklin and Bertha Sawyers, his wife: Rose Sawyers, and his daughter: Betty Lou Powell.
Funeral Services for Mr. Robert Sawyers will be on Thursday, January 5th, at 2 PM at the Pleasant Run Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Hurst and Rev. Tim Ball will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Manchester Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 PM until 9 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.
