John Baker Weaver, 81, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 in Birmingham. John was born on December 30, 1932 in Sextons Creek, Kentucky. He attended Clark School in Sextons Creek and Annville Institute in Annville, Kentucky. John (known as Butch to his friends and family) spent his early years working in the tool and die industry in Dayton, Ohio at International Tool Company before relocating with his family to Gadsden, Alabama in 1962 where he and his brother, Jerry, were owners of Dixie Tool & Die Company.
John had an entrepreneurial spirit. John and Jerry started many businesses over the years including Mid-South Electronics (with locations in Annville, Kentucky and Gadsden, Alabama), Etowah Manufacturing Company (EMCO) (located in Gadsden, Alabama) and Stamped Products, Inc., (located in Gadsden, Alabama).
John was a member of the Blue Lodge, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Shriners.
John resided in Guntersville, Alabama for the last 28 years with his wife Vecha. While living in Alabama, he continued to have a respect and love for his Old Kentucky home and birthplace.
John is preceded in death by his parents J.B. and Jackie Weaver, his son John Keith Weaver and his sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Jim Florer.
John is survived by his loyal wife of 61 years Vecha Weaver, son Carl Weaver, daughter Sharon Weaver Marbut (Ricky Marbut), and son Mark (Krista) Weaver, brother: Jerry (Irene) Weaver; grandson Brian (Mariesa) Marbut, granddaughter Christy Marbut (Todd Goldberg) and grandson John Mark Weaver; great-grandchildren Hayden and Cameron Marbut and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brian Marbut, John Mark Weaver, Harold Weaver, Daryl Weaver, Brad Florer and Sterling Walters.
Graveside services will be at 1 PM Eastern Standard Time, Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Weaver Family Cemetery in Sextons Creek, Kentucky.
