Beloved John William Crawford, known as Jay Crawford by family and friends, was born on January 29, 1940 to the union of Taylor and Osha Jackson Crawford in the Blue Hole Community of Clay County, Kentucky. He passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Baptist Regional Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky.

Jay graduated from the Clay County High School in 1961; he served 2 terms in Vietnam and received the following awards: the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Award, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and numerous other awards. Jay retired from the Kentucky National Guard after 27 years of service, he was a member of the Manchester Baptist Church in Manchester, Kentucky, a was retired from the Manchester City Police Force.

Jay is survived by 2 brothers: Roy C. Crawford and his wife: Cledith of London, Kentucky, and John Crawford and his wife: Paula of London, Kentucky, 4 sisters: Wilma J. Minton and her husband: Don of London, Kentucky, Gerri C. Dyer and her husband Mike of Corydon, Indiana, Ethel Hopkins of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Judy C. Wilson of London, Kentucky. Also surviving are these nieces and nephews: Bobbie Michelle Crawford Waters of Liberty, Indiana, Carla C. Thomas of Corydon, Indiana, Chrystal Townsend of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Alexandria Hopkins of Denver, Colorado, Katie Sizemore of London, Kentucky, Jonathan David Wilson of Pineville, Kentucky, Nicholas Minton of London, Kentucky, and these great nieces and great nephews: Courtland Thomas and Carlan Thomas both of Corydon, Indiana, Paisley Townsend of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tiffany Waters and Lori Waters both of Liberty, Indiana, Spencer Townsend of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Damon Lucas Wilson of Pineville, Kentucky, and Cy Waters of Liberty, Indiana, as well as a host of other family and friends that mourn his loss.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Taylor and Osha Crawford, his brothers: Frank and Virgil Crawford, and 2 nephews: Roderick Clay Crawford and Christopher Lee Hagedorn.

Funeral Services for Mr. John William “Jay” Crawford will be conducted on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 2 PM at the Manchester Baptist Church in Manchester, Kentucky with the Rev. Ken Bolin and Rev. Gary Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Enjine Cemetery in the Blue Hole Community.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 23 after 6 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.
