Jimmy Burchell

June 14, 1931 — May 5, 2024

Manchester

Jimmy Burchell, age 92 went to his heavenly home on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at his home.  He was born on Sunday, June 14, 1931 in Manchester, Kentucky to the union of Theophilus Toulmin and Edna (Ted) Howard Burchell.  Jimmy attended the Manchester Elementary School, Clay County High School, the Ben Lippen Boys School in Asheville, North Carolina, Pikeville College, Kings College of Delaware, The Philadelphia Bible Institute and the Asbury College.  He spent his life as a dairy farmer, a Bible Teacher at the Christian Fellowship Tabernacle Church, he worked for the Department of Social Services, worked in Mining Detonation and was an award winning Taxidermist.  Jimmy was an avid hunter, fisherman, dog trainer, he raised Deer (Buck John and Jamie), loved taking his family to the community swimming pool every summer evening and loved watching his children play sports as well as an avid UK fan, a piano player, accordion player, song writer, amateur Archaeologist and Arrowhead Hunter.  He and the County Judge were instrumental in preserving the Red Bird Petroglyphs that fell onto the road and is now displayed to the public at the Rawlings and Stinson Park.  He was a strength training Coach for the Clay County High School Lady Tigers and loved the Lady Tigers very much.  Jimmy was also an author, he wrote several books pertaining to ancient writings found in Clay County and surround counties and was featured in some nationally televised documentaries, he also studied locally grown herbs that could benefit certain illnesses but his greatest and true passion was reading and studing the Bible.  He considered himself a Bible Teacher (not a preacher), a passion he performed for over 70 years.  Ephesians 3:9 is written above the front door of his church “and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ”.  Faith was the centerpiece of his many lessons… “without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6)

He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife: Mona Garrison Burchell, his children: Joseph Wayne Burchell and wife Debbie, James Phillip Burchell and wife Mary Anne, John Toulmin Burchell, Janice Sue Fiechter and husband Keith and Jeannette Renee Burchell.  Also surviving are his grandchildren: Trevor, Garrison, Sarah, Phillip and Casey, his great grandchildren: Harrison West, Lilah Rose, Lincoln James, Connor, Olivia and Georgia as well as several nieces and nephews.
