Jerry Dakota McCoy

Dakota McCoy, age 23 departed this life on Monday, January 13, 2025. He was born on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 in Newark, Delaware to Jerry McCoy and Tonya (Collett) Norris. He worked at the Clay County Detention Center and was a member of the Flat Creek Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the Manchester Volunteer and Big Creek Volunteer Fire Departments, badge number 526. Dakota loved his firefighter family and jail family, they were his mentors and he loved them dearly.  He was a former employee for Laurel County Corrections.

He leaves to mourn his passing his mother: Tonya Norris and his step-father: Greg Norris, his father: Jerry McCoy and his step-mother: Ciera McCoy, his brothers and sisters: Rylan McCoy, Madilyn McCoy, Christian Estep and Makenzie Griffitts, his special best friend and brother: Brandon Bowling, his special bonus mom: Nicole Sizemore, his bonus dad: Shannon Sizemore, his special babies: Snookie Smith and Ella. Also surviving are his aunts: Misty Sizemore, Sabrina Collett, Sharon Eversole, Kimberly Hubbard, Tonya McCoy Zganyayko and husband: Vadim and Melissa Weisner and husband Vaughn, his uncles: Toma Collet and Roilynn Collett as well as his grandparents: Joseph McCoy, Roy Houston Lawson and Edna Stidham.

He is preceded in death by his brother: Tyler Griffitts, his grandmother: Dola McCoy and his great grandfather: Bleve Bowling.

Funeral Services for Dakota McCoy will be conducted on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 2:30 PM at the Big Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Ralph Brown and Rev. Paul Mitchell will be presiding. Burial will follow in the Ledford Cemetery in the Red Bird Community.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday, January 17, 2025 after 6 PM at the Big Creek Baptist Church.
