Georgia Lee Hayes Davidson Hoskins, 78, of Greenbriar Road, Manchester, Kentucky
began her new journey, Sunday, October 7, 2018 as a patient at the Noreen & Greg
Wells Hospice Care facility in Hazard, KY, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She was born Friday, September 20, 1940 at Gray Hawk, Kentucky to the union of Henry & Ollie Murrell Hayes.
In 1971 Georgia moved with her 4 children to Manchester, Kentucky from Hamilton,
Ohio. Manchester became home for her and 3 of her children. Her creativity afforded
her the ability to use minimal resources to support and care for her children as a very
young mother. Georgia gardened, canned, sewed, cooked, and cleaned to provide a
living for her family. She enjoyed listening to music, dancing, traveling, crocheting
intricate pieces, framing and matting prints along with cooking large meals for her family
and friends; her speciality was chicken and dumplings. Quilting blankets for her friends,
children and grandchildren became a hobby later life. If her goal was to make sure her
family was warm during the winter, she exceeded that goal. She was instrumental in the
rearing of her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Her love for her great
grandchildren was reciprocated in kind and to be at their great grandmother’s house will
be one of their most cherished memories.
Georgia leaves to mourn her passing her children: Mitchell Davidson (Cindy) of
Gulfport, Mississippi, Valerie Davidson Cole, Julia Davidson (Albert Williams) and
Gregory Davidson all of Manchester, Kentucky. Also surviving is one step-son, Herbert
Schaller of Rossdorf, Germany. In addition she leaves her sisters, Minnie Holland of
Trenton, Ohio and Bernadette Bradley of Hamilton, Ohio.
The following grandchildren and their families will also mourn her passing: Mitchell
Davidson Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, Benjamin Cole (Angie) Amanda Collins (Eli), Taylor
Hoskins (Price), and Makaylah Hensley (Montana) all residing in Manchester, Kentucky.
Blessed beyond measure she doted and spoiled her great grandchildren with love only
a great grandmother could bestow. Dale Chandler & Carli Cole, Madalynn & Eli Ruck
Collins II and her newest namesake, Georgia Belle Hoskins will forever hold her love in
their hearts. The memory of their great grandmother will include overnight stays of forts,
ginger bread houses, pirate ships and anything they could imagine. Their only
limitations were their imaginations when visiting their great grandmother’s house.
Georgia was preceded in death by her mother and father and the following siblings:
Betty Burchell, Goldie Brewer, Clara Davidson, Irene Smith, Polly Bohlen, Beulah Mills,
Alfred Charles Hayes and Diana Corbin as well as her beloved son-in-law Dale Cole.
No formal service will be conducted at the request of Georgia. Family and friends who
would like to visit with the family in the coming days are welcome to visit at the home of
her daughter, Valerie Cole, on Jacks Branch. In lieu of flowers or remembrance gifts the
family requests that donations be made in her honor to Clay County Cancer Coalition,
Noreen & Greg Wells Hospice Center, Hazard, KY (https//give.bgcarenav.org) or the
National Cancer Association (www.americancancerfund.org/donate) in honor of her
memory. Most importantly if ever there is an opportunity to lend a helping hand to those
in need, whatever capacity, extend yours. That’s how we would like our mother to be
remembered. “We get by with a little help from our friends.” ~Beatles
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rominger Funeral Home.
