Betty W. White, age 84, widow of Letcher T. White, passed away Tuesday, November 3rd, 2010, after a long illness at Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Kentucky. Betty was born May 28th, 1926 to the union of Joseph and Stella B. White in Harlan County, Kentucky. She was a 1944 graduate of Lynch High School, Lynch, Kentucky and received a nursing degree from the Corbin Baptist Hospital Nursing Program. She worked with Dr. Caleb Chu and Dr. Ira Wheeler until joining the then fledgling Clay County Home Health Department, where she attended patients up hollows and across creeks all over Clay County. She volunteered tirelessly for the American Cancer Association and was active in the Eastern Kentucky ALS Association. Betty was an avid gardener, excellent cook and creative seamstress.

She devoted her life to caring for her family and many others. She was predeceased by one son: Letcher T. White, Jr. and is survived by 5 children: Smith Jenkins, Jr. and wife Mary of St. Petersburg, Fla., S. Margaret White of Manchester, KY, Yancey L. White and wife Annette of Manchester, KY, Timothy J. White McKay of Memphis, TN, and Peter Z. White McKay and wife Geneann of Gainesville, Fla. She was Nana to 5 grandchildren: Michael J. Jenkins and Elizabeth J. Pelligrini both of the Boston, Mass. Area, Becky Em Logan of Manchester, KY, Anya and Michael McKay of Memphis, TN, and two great grandchildren: Emma Jenkins and Michael Pelligrini, Jr.

Betty was predeceased by 5 siblings and leaves many nieces and nephews whose lives were enriched by having known and loved Aunt Beck.

Funeral Services for Betty W. White will be Sunday, November 7th, 2010 at 2 PM at the Liberty Worship Center. Rev. Rusty Roberts will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Craig Cemetery in Manchester, Kentucky.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 6th, from 6 PM until 9 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.

Rominger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
